AIGA Context Student Competition: Steelers Program

Project: AIGA Context Student Design Competition

Outline: For this entry, we had to design a cover and two spreads for a program available for purchase at a Pittsburgh Steelers home game. Designers had to develop illustrations or find photographs to make an appealing, attention-grabbing cover and layout. The cover had to relate to the inside story while featuring different artwork than the opening spread of the layout. The cover page was required to include date, Steelers logo, GAME DAY logo, NFL logo and "Week 10 vs. Dallas Cowboys." Main story was included with optional extension to story. All logos and assets were provided.

Concept: The Steelers have a rich history or success and dedicated fans which inspired me to stick with a similar theme. I choose the font "Factoria" because it has an athletic feel to it, but was still legible at a body-copy scale. I choose pull quotes from the story to highlight the rivalry between the Steelers and the Cowboys, especially from the players' view.  The story highlighted the rivalry between the two teams, but I dediced to only use Steelers colors. I decided on this because the programs would be sold at Steelers games and because of the distance of the opponents, not many Cowboys fans would be there to consider buying the program anyway.

Any and all feedback is appreciated!
