This project involved creating a three-poster advertisment campaign for the Yorkshire 'Grand Depart' stage of the 2014 Tour de France. Essentially I wanted to illustrate that it was a cycling event, but also that it was taking place in Yorkshire, which is a beautiful, culturally rich area of the UK. Therefore to do this, I decided to create an image of a cyclist, which would be stylised and hand-rendered, and have the background of each poster to be blue, white and red to represent the french flag. What makes these posters fascinating is the fact that part of an image of an area or attraction in Yorkshire will be displayed through the body of the cyclist and his bike to suggest that the cyclists are showing you around Yorkshire and the more you follow and watch them, the more of Yorkshire you will see.
The areas of Yorkshire that I chose to illustrate are the the York Minster, as York is one of the cities the cyclists started at, Betty's Tea Room, which is a traditional Yorkshire tea room based in Harrogate, and the Yorkshire Dales, which are stunning, picturesque areas of the countryside.
