Film Monthly Magazine and Poster

For this second-year project, I produced a cover and magazine spreads for Film Monthly inspired by the famous work of film director Kathryn Bigelow. Of Bigelow's largely action-based filmography, I focused on her 1991 film Point Break. Set in Los Angeles, a young F.B.I. Agent Johnny Utah works undercover among a group of surfers, who may or may not also be a gang of masked bank robbers called The Ex-Presidents.

This project allowed me to experiment with my design style and develop my skills using InDesign. In particular, I liked the balance of the cover's typography and image, as well as the film-inspired creativity behind the contents page and illustrations.
For the swiss style inspired poster, I decided to focus on Bigelow's 1991 film Point Break.

With this design, I developed the idea of a target focusing on its aim, as well as used a blossoming, flower-like shape to represent the central themes of both life and crime throughout the film. What's more, I used the existing bold colour palette from the magazine to link the poster's content.
