Tennis and related workouts are a great way of improving cardiovascular performance and overall endurance. Suicide running drills are high-intensity sprinting drills that require participants to complete progressively longer distant lines as quickly as possible. A single suicide involves completing the entire circuit. In most cases, such as high school and college sports practices, athletes are tasked with completing a large number of sets. Suicides are convenient in that they do not require any special equipment.

It can be helpful to run drills on a basketball or tennis court to use the various boundaries as distance lines. Tennis court suicides begin with individuals standing outside of the court, looking across the court’s width. The first part of the set is completed simply by taking a quick step into and back out of the doubles alley. From there, individuals progress from the start to halfway across the court at the service line, and then back to the starting position off court. The next line runs to the edge of the opposite doubles alley, and the final one involves sprinting from one out-of-bounds line to the other. Sprinting this entire circuit constitutes one suicide.
