For this project I created a publication design based on the short story 'Message In A Bottle' by Jeanette Winterson. The design was created according to the Modernist design movement, using a Swiss style and a modular grid. I decided to display my publication visually through the use of photography which was more experimental and emotive.
I used a modular grid to suit the Modernist design movement as it allowed me to create a design that was more structured and where every element had its place.
The centrefold was created to include an interaction in the form of a single page of transparent film with the words 'Clear and transparent' on it which allows the reader to interact with it and move it around while suiting the storyline of the short story. The images are meant to take the reader on a journey that follows along with the story and portrays the emotions that the main character is feeling.
I started my experimentation with self-portraiture using blurring to create emotion and create anonymity as well as using blue and red, imagery that is evident within the story.
